Registered Sex Offender Policy

Our vision at Downtown is to be the W.O.R.D. Made Flesh. To be Worshipful, Obedient, Relational, Disciple-Makers. One way we fulfill this vision is by creating a welcoming space where all are welcome to worship, but clear expectations are communicated. This policy guides the actions and behaviors around Registered Sex Offenders who attend the Downtown Church, and create a clear protocol for how we as a church love them, treat them, and provide biblical accountability to them.

Many states have laws that govern and guide the ability of Registered Sex Offenders to participate and engage with a local congregation. These laws help protect minors and keep all congregants safe. In order to abide by state law, and to help ensure fair and loving treatment of Registered Sex Offenders, the following documents help guide and shape how both the church, and the offender interact with each other. In order for a Registered Sex Offender to engage in activities with the church, they must have an in-person meeting with the leadership and designated ministers. In this meeting, church leadership will thoroughly explain the Sex Offender Policy. They will also explain the Covenant Agreement and Participation Application, and require both be filled out and signed before the Registered Sex Offender can continue attending services or activities at the church.
