Child Safety Policy
Partner: Downtown Church of Christ
No matter how large or small your Children’s & Youth Ministries are, it’s important to have a plans and procedures to help train and prepare your volunteers. The Downtown Church uses the following documents as a template to help shape and safeguard volunteer interactions with minors.
explanation & information
At the Downtown Church, the Child Safety Policy governs all interactions with adults (those over 18) who are volunteering to work with any children or students who are minors (under the age of 18). All Ministers, Staff Members, Interns, and Shepherds are required to read and abide by all three sections of the Child Safety Policy. Those volunteering in Children’s Ministry are required to read and abide by sections 1 & 2. Those volunteering in Youth Ministry are required to read and abide by sections 1 & 3. All volunteers must sign the “Acknowledgement of Receipt Form” and complete a background check before they are able to serve in a classroom, work with children, or serve as a chaperone on a trip. Below is more information regarding the different sections of the Child Protection Policy.
1. The first document (Child Safety Policy – Section 1) covers all volunteers serving in both Children’s Ministry & Youth Ministry.
2. The second document (Child Safety Policy – Section 2) covers more specific information for those volunteers serving in Children’s Ministry. Kids in this category can range from newborns to elementary school age children.
3. The third document (Child Safety Policy – Section 3) covers more specific information for those volunteers serving in Youth Ministry. Students in this category can range from Jr. High School to High School students.
